The ELKS Story

We Are

TEAM ELKS

Why, you may ask?

ELKS is an acronym that represents our team.

E-     Edward Seymour
L-     (Nothing, just for fun)
K-     Kaleb Branch
K-     Katy Wong
S-     Samuel Murphy

We are a group of highly motivated engineering physics students at Tulane University. One of our biggest strength is our team synergy which makes tackling challenging problems more manageable when you have four hardworking goal-oriented people.

~Team Leader~

I’m a senior studying engineering physics with concentration in electrical engineering from Metairie, Louisiana. I’ve been working as project lead and on the hardware development side. If you have interacted with the group at any point, it was most likely through me! Being project lead means being constantly informed of the group’s progress to make decisions and to sufficiently communicate with our stakeholders. I eventually fell in love with hardware development aspect. Funny enough, when I first started the project, I had not taken circuit analysis. First semester was especially a rough learning curve for me, but I’m happy with how far we’ve come in terms of progress. I’m hoping my next steps will be to further develop my interest in analog/digital circuit design whether it be in pursuing a masters in electrical engineering or obtaining an entry-level engineering position.

~Programming Lead~

I'm a senior studying engineering physics and math (I couldn't pick one). I'm the odd one from the group who is not local- I hail from Seattle, Washington- but I have loved making New Orleans my home these past few years. My skills tend to be more theoretically focused, so for this project I handled a lot of the programming, including the website you're looking at! Other contributions include integrating the Arduino and Raspberry Pi so the potentiostat acts as a standalone device. Despite what this project my have you thinking, my interests lie in the field of nanoscience and optics. Gradually this has lead me to focus on a more research-based career, and I will be attending the optics PhD program at the University of Arizona next fall to do just that.

~Hardware Team~

I am an Engineering Physics Major with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering from Metairie, Louisiana. I’ve been working heavily on the hardware and Arduino coding with Edward. This has been a challenge due to this project being out of all our comfort zones. I took on this project because I knew it would be something different and challenging. This project has allowed me to gain lots of experience in Electrical Engineering that I would not have gotten otherwise. After college, I will commission into the Louisiana Army National Guard as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Branch of Field Artillery. I also plan to work at the Army Corps of Engineers. Long term, like Edward, I plan to go the entrepreneurial route and start my own electric car company.

~Hardware Team~

I'm an engineering physics major with a concentration in mechanical engineering. My hometown is Monroe, Louisiana. I hope to one day be able to give back to the community that raised me. This project inspired me to use my engineering knowledge to benefit society and to never back down from solving grand issues. I plan to take an entrepreneurial route after graduation and get my start in music technology.
